Amongst all the chaos going on these days, I’ve found solace in the fact that we, as a society, are being called to come together to slow down, reflect, and recharge. With so many “to-do’s” being cancelled, we are forced to do something we rarely ever do - simply just be. Virus or not, prioritizing our health should always be our top priority - and circumstances like this make that clear as day.
I wanted to shed some light on what we can do to support and boost our immune systems naturally. Trust me, it’ll do so much more than panic-buying toilet paper.
Quite possibly the hardest tip to implement, but also quite possibly the most effective. Our body’s natural stress response can put a huge toll on your body if overused, and can directly lower our immune response, making us more vulnerable to infection. But before you stress out about being stressed out, there is some good news. All it takes is a few simple activities to introduce (or perhaps re-introduce) into your current routine. Some of my personal favorite ways to de-stress include:
Enjoy a walk outside, in nature, or unplugged
Try journaling - writing out gratitudes, setting intentions, or just “mind dumping”
Cuddle your fur babies
Breathing or guided meditation exercises (there’s some great free apps for this)
Epsom salt baths
Prioritize laughing with loved ones - this can be as simple as curling up on the couch and turning on a funny movie
Embrace a Diet Filled with Immunity-Boosting Foods
It’s definitely no lie that food is nature’s best medicine. Here are some of the most powerful nutrients and foods to lower oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and boost your immune system.
Eat (Or Drink) Your Algaes
I really don’t particularly use the term “superfood” very often, but if there was a time to use it, it would definitely be to describe algae. Algae boasts such a high protein, iron, and mineral content and, among many other functions, can boost the production of disease-fighting cells. Try implementing spirulina, chlorella, E3 live, or blue majik (which gives our Blue Moon that pretty color) into your diet and reap so many benefits.
I’m sure it goes without saying that sleep is crucial for insuring your immune system is intact. Give yourself a break and enjoy that much needed (and probably well deserved) sleep in.
